Victory in Christ: The Promise of Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
Romans 8:31(NASB95)
Paul asks two questions in this verse. These two questions are the first two in a string of seven questions Paul asks to support his claim in the previous verses. Paul claimed that a believer’s salvation is completely secure in God’s hands. Simply put, God is for us! So, taking the first part of this verse, what do we say? Paul then asks if God is for us, who can be against us.
So, let us take the obvious from this question. Can Satan or his demons be against us? They certainly can be against us; furthermore, it is their sole intent to be against us and try to pluck us out of God’s hand. Scripturally, we know this can never be true (John 10:28), But spiritual warfare is very real. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (NASB95)
There are so many other things that can come against us. The world around us is constantly putting pressure on us. Providing food and shelter for our families might be something that can go against us. All those things are very real and cannot be minimized. However, as believers, we have hope in Jesus Christ. We know this life is temporary, and we are on our way to eternity with God. All we need to do is look at the next verse in Romans (v.32). God gave up his only son for us. If God was willing to do that, then we can be assured that he will not let anything come against his children.
Prayer
Father, I want to thank you for your grace and mercy. Give me comfort and peace when I go through trials in this life. I know that with you in my corner, nothing that comes against me will succeed. Things may look pretty grim sometimes, but I know I need to keep my eyes on you, Lord.
How can I pray for you? Please let me know by emailing me on my contacts page.
