Unashamed – Embracing the Power of the Gospel
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16 (NIV)
In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations. How are we to make disciples of all nations? We are to spread the gospel. I know sharing your faith will make some of you break out into a cold sweat. I get that. Talking to a stranger about something as personal as your faith is hard. Sometimes, it is hard to do with family and friends. However, in Romans 1:16, Paul makes a powerful statement. Paul tells us not to be ashamed of the gospel because it brings salvation to everyone who believes.
You have a message in the gospel that can give people eternal life through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to rescue us from sin and give us eternal life. The gospel message can change lives, heal hearts, and restore hope.
Our failure now is that preachers ignore the cross and veil Christ with sapless sermons and superfine language. They don’t just present Him to the people plainly … What we need is to preach Christ and present Him to a perishing world. The world can get on very well without you and me, but the world cannot get on without Christ.
-Dwight L. Moody
When you truly understand the power of the gospel message, it will be almost impossible not to share it. I want you to think about when you heard the gospel message and followed Jesus. Do you remember how it felt? It is the most incredible feeling in the world. You have the power to spread that message. Jesus commands it.
Furthermore, Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit as a helper. You don’t have to do it all alone. Think of it this way: You can’t save anyone, so the pressure is off you. Our job is to plant the seed and let the Holy Spirit take over!
The world will try to make us feel embarrassed and hesitant to talk about the good news of Jesus Christ. You better believe that Satan does not want us to talk about our hope in Jesus. However, when you have the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit backing you up, you can stand boldly and proclaim the name of Jesus. God wants us to reach everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Today, let’s pray for boldness. Let’s ask God to help us be unashamed, just like Paul, and to share the gospel with love and confidence. You never know how God might use you to bring His light to someone else.
Reflection Question:
Is there someone in your life who needs to hear the good news of Jesus? How can you be unashamed in sharing your faith with them?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the power of the gospel. Please help me be bold and unashamed when sharing it with others. Give me the courage to speak about Your love and salvation, knowing You can work through me to change lives. Amen.
